CONCEPTION

I LOST MY DAUGHTER TO HEROIN, CAN I START OVER WITH HER CHILD?

THE NEW YORK TIMES VIDEO

In 2018, I was approached by the NYTimes Video team to design and direct the animation of an episode of their award winning series ‘CONCEPTION’.

Through a powerful and emotional voice-over narration, Lori talks about her daughter Lindsay and the events that led to Linsday’s addiction to heroin. Now that her daughter has passed away, Lori struggles with the fear that she won’t be able to protect Lindsay’s daughter Lilah from the same perils.

This challenging short was produced by Margaret Cheatham Williams, and was a finalist for the Livingston Award for Journalism in National Reporting in 2019.

CONCEPT ART

As the project began with an existing voice over narration, our challenge at the start was to find the right design style for the animation to suit the material. A couple styles were explored before we landed on the final look.
